Hotel Essex, San Francisco

Hotel Essex, San Francisco

October 17, 2010. Hotel Essex, at the corner of Ellis St. and Larkin St., in The Tenderloin, San Francisco.

7am on Sunday morning, I was up and out of my hostel, which was directly across the street from this hotel. There are some pretty sketchy areas around here, but all the old hotel and bar signs around here made it very visually appealing.

Any human excrement? That's when you _really_ know you're in the Tenderloin.

Nice area apart from that, stayed there once myself :)

I don't recall seeing any poop anywhere, but wouldn't be totally surprised if I did.

Yeah, it's actually a really beautiful area of the city. I could totally see it getting gentrified, but I bet its reputation is strong enough to keep that from happening so quickly.
