August 7, 2011, in the stairway going up to the West Toronto Railpath on the south side of Bloor St. "* Some Conditions Apply" stenciled over a patch of wall that was recently re-de-graffiti'd (yes, that's officially a word now). It's a constant back'n'forth game around here, as graffiti shows up on the walls, then gets sloppily painted over by the City.

I believe the "Some Conditions Apply" phrasing here is a commentary about the various states of legality / illegality, and sometimes uncertain approval processes for legalizing artwork.

April 15, 2011. Another recent tag by Kismet on the stairs up to the Railpath on the north side of Bloor St. The other one that I posted recently didn't last long, and I don't expect this one to either. The layers of paint are building up fast...

Balloon and Two Towers

February 12, 2011. A balloon, the former Tower Automotive building, and the CN Tower, looking east from the West Toronto Railpath.

This balloon graffiti has been showing up all over our 'hood, especially along the Railpath, and apparently all over the city. This plot of land has undergone many changes over the last couple of years, and it will be interesting to see what it gets re-developed into.

Dupont St. bridge construction + Planet Storage

December 14, 2010, on the railway bridge above Dupont St. at Dundas St. West. During the next few days after this photo was taken, a new bridge was constructed between the bridge I'm standing on and the West Toronto Railpath (the orange bridge on the left). This is all part of the railway expansion project for GO Transit's Georgetown line and the Airport Rail Link. In the background is the Planet Storage building, formerly Viceroy Rubber.

October 3, 2010. One more photo from Rail of Light during Nuit Blanche. This photo of the lights on the Wallace Ave. Footbridge was taken from the West Toronto Railpath, looking through the "W" of the Wallace Ave. sign. You can see that sign in this photo.

I've fallen way behind on posting my "daily" photos here. So much to do, so little time...

Here's another one from the Rail of Light exhibit during Nuit Blanche. This is the view from the West Toronto Railpath, underneath the Wallace Ave Footbridge. This gives a good overview of the whole project: Richard Mongiat's light installation on the bridge above the tracks, Jeff Winch's video projection underneath the bridge, and even train-related artwork on the fence by some local kids.

It was actually pretty busy under this bridge with many people coming through to check it out. But the long shutter speed used for this photo just caught some of the "ghosts" walking by.

Tower Automotive: Lonely chimney, about to die

Sunday afternoon, September 12, 2010.

By this time, the chimney was the only structure left standing on the Tower Automotive property, aside from the tower itself.

A couple of weeks before, I took this photo from inside the boiler house that surrounded the chimney.

Tower Automotive and a rainy Railpath

September 2, 2010: A rainy day on the West Toronto Railpath. I dropped by here again after work to take some more photos of the Tower Automotive demolition, and there was a short burst of heavy rain while I was taking my pics. I whipped my umbrella out and kept taking a few more photos, and enjoyed the new shine and reflections that the rain provided.

If I were to take a photo from this same spot today, barely a month later, it would look completely different with that building and chimney gone. The Railpath and the rain are still there today.

Strollin' past the new tree mural

A father and son (no, not me yet!) stroll past the new mural that's going up on the south side of Bloor St., between Perth Ave. and Dundas St. West. This new tree mural certainly helps brighten up this railway underpass, and is a nice complement to the Railpath up above.
