Penguins

Penguins

January 8, 2010. The step up into a truck, during a snowstorm. Penguins holding hands? Snow angels? I dunno... Photo taken behind the Caldense Bakery on Symington Ave., in the Junction Triangle.

January 8, 2011. Spotted this sign in the alley behind Campbell Ave. south of Dupont while out for a morning walk during a snowstorm.

Businessman lost in the snow

January 8, 2011. I was out for a walk yesterday morning during the snowstorm. This photo was taken on Dupont St. at the rail underpass between Campbell and Lansdowne Avenues. The businessman stencil is part of Joel Richardson's mural.

Snowstorm at the Wallace Market, Symington Ave.

January 8, 2011. An early morning storm was dropping about 10-15cm of snow around Toronto. Finally! I took advantage of it by going out for a long morning walk around the Junction Triangle while the snow was still coming down hard. Couldn't have asked for better weather for a morning walk. Just had to be careful to keep the camera dry.

This photo was taken at the Wallace Market, at the corner of Symington and Wallace Avenues. It's quite the photogenic little store, judging by all the photos that show up on Flickr and other sites. The vignettes (dark corners) in this photo were accidental, caused by a crooked lens hood which I corrected after taking this photo.

Railway bridge construction over Dupont St.

Railway bridge construction over Dupont St.

December 14, 2010. An alternate view of the photo I posted a couple of days ago. This ramshackle-looking CN railway vehicle was parked on the bridge over Dupont St. at Dundas West for the construction of another railway bridge span. To me, this vehicle almost looks abandoned, though I've seen it in use at various places along the Georgetown tracks during recent construction. The somewhat desolate view north from here towards the West Toronto Diamond (aka The Junction) also makes me think of a more rundown rural or small-town setting. In the distance, you can still see the one remaining St. Mary's Cement silo on Junction Road. It's sister silo was demolished this past autumn.

Dupont St. bridge construction + Planet Storage

December 14, 2010, on the railway bridge above Dupont St. at Dundas St. West. During the next few days after this photo was taken, a new bridge was constructed between the bridge I'm standing on and the West Toronto Railpath (the orange bridge on the left). This is all part of the railway expansion project for GO Transit's Georgetown line and the Airport Rail Link. In the background is the Planet Storage building, formerly Viceroy Rubber.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Hope you have a rockin' 2011. I have definitely signed myself up for some fun, excitement, and many challenges this year. :)

Photo taken on December 14, 2010, under the railway underpass on Dupont St. at Dundas St. West, while I was out taking some photos of the bridge construction. Will post more of those soon.

Sweat CANCELLED due to weather

Sweat CANCELLED due to weather

December 14, 2010. It was a cold evening, about -10C, but still a nice night for a walk around the neighbourhood. This sign on Dupont St., near Edwin Ave. caught my eye. "Sweat cancelled due to weather". Yeah, I wasn't sweating much at all, that's for sure.

Amanda's awesome tree jack-o-lantern

Amanda's awesome tree jack-o-lantern

Halloween, October 31 2010. Jen and I always carve our own jack-o-lanterns for Halloween, but I don't think ours turned out as artistically awesome as Amanda's tree-pumpkin.

Amanda, our upstairs neighbour Mark's girlfriend, is a tree-nerd who works for LEAF, so this bit of artwork is totally appropriate. The spiral pumpkin is Mark's creation. They also set up a "candy cannon" to shoot chocolate bars down a pipe from our balcony into the kids' candy bags. So much fun. Thanks guys!

A few more photos from Halloween at home are posted here.

Rail of Light: Doubleu

Rail of Light: Doubleu

October 3, 2010. One more photo from Rail of Light during Nuit Blanche. This photo of the lights on the Wallace Ave. Footbridge was taken from the West Toronto Railpath, looking through the "W" of the Wallace Ave. sign. You can see that sign in this photo.

You can see all of my Rail of Light / Nuit Blanche photos in the complete gallery here.
