We spent a weekend in Niagara Falls recently. It was a relaxing little mini-vacation that consisted mainly of a bit of cycling, plenty of relaxation, a quite a bit of walking / hiking.
Our hike on Saturday took us down the escarpment to the Niagara River whirlpool, just downstream of the falls. This is an amazing place, totally different from the touristy madness near the falls. Very quiet, and only a few people to share this wonderful view with. We had a picnic lunch down here while watching the water whirl around this part of the gorge, and then hiked around some more.
It was a hot day, and there was definitely a temptation to go for a swim, but obviously that wouldn't have been a wise idea.

A father and son (no, not me yet!) stroll past the new mural that's going up on the south side of Bloor St., between Perth Ave. and Dundas St. West. This new tree mural certainly helps brighten up this railway underpass, and is a nice complement to the Railpath up above.

We spent most of the Canada Day week up at Jen's parents' cottage in Wasaga Beach. Overall, a very relaxing time.
When we weren't napping, snoozing, relaxing, chillin', or just takin' it easy, we did some cycling around town, and some hiking in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Here's a photo of a shadowy fern next to a trail in the park. June 29, 2010.
Similar to yesterday's photo, some wildflowers and graffiti on the Railpath. Taken on 2010-06-06.
A yellow flower on the West Toronto Railpath, somewhere between Ruskin Ave. and Dupont St., 2010-06-06.
Went for a walk along the West Toronto Railpath and around the 'hood one evening a few weeks ago. The Crossways apartment complex at Dundas and Bloor was lit up nicely by the setting sun.
Looking south along the Railpath, just north of the Wallace Ave. pedestrian bridge, 2010-06-06.
Some graffiti next to the railway tracks just south of Casa Loma, between Bathurst and Spadina.

Bruce Ward was the leader of the Junction Triangle Jane's Walk a couple of weekends ago. As we toured the neighbourhood, Bruce (and some other people) spoke about various interesting bits along the way.
Last weekend's Junction Triangle Jane's Walk, on the West Toronto Railpath south of Bloor St.
This photo had poor colour, some fuzzy focus, and some haloing issues due to the lens filter and sunlight. I tried making it black and white, and thought it looked much better that way.
Speaking of the Railpath: Check out this "Then and Now" photo set I posted over on the Junction Triangle website.
Sunday May 2, 2010. Near the start of last weekend's Jane's Walk through the Junction Triangle neighbourhood in west Toronto. Walking west along Wallace Ave., crossing the tracks into the triangle.
