Anything Goes

June 9, 2011. Spotted at the corner of Wellington and MacKenzie (in front of the Chateau Laurier), Ottawa, Ontario.

Rule 107

Rule 107

June 6, 2011. A "Rule 107" sign, as seen from the VIA train window while passing through Smith's Falls, Ontario on the way to Ottawa.

I didn't know what Rule 107 was either, until I looked it up.

Mysterious Railpath Stencil Guy

Mysterious Railpath Stencil Guy

April 15 2011. A stencil on the stairway leading up to the West Toronto Railpath on the south side of Bloor St.

Any idea who this is supposed to be?

Kugelis (or, Tastiest Dinner in a Loooong Time)

Kugelis (or, Tastiest Dinner in a Loooong Time)

April 17, 2011. It's probably been eight to ten years since I last made kugelis, one of my favourite Lithuanian dishes. My previous attempts were not too successful, so that's probably why I haven't made it for so long. But today's kugelis was awesome, I must admit. And how can you really go wrong with potatoes, onions, bacon, and sour cream? Such an amazing comfort food, especially on a snowy/rainy "Spring" day. I also picked up some Švyturys Ekstra, the only Lithuanian beer available in Ontario, to wash it down.

Yes, I even baked a vegetarian version without bacon for Jen, and instead of the bacon and onion topping, I made a mushroom and onion topping for hers.

The whole house smells like bacon, potatoes, and onions now. Awesome. Already looking forward to breakfast and lunch. ;-)

San Francisco: Lombard St. STOP

San Francisco: Lombard St. STOP

October 17, 2010. Photo taken from the base of the switchbacks on the "world's crookedest street", Lombard St., in San Francisco's Russian Hill area (Google Map). It's pretty much impossible to take a photo of this street without getting a whole gaggle of tourists in your shot, but I guess that's almost part of the charm of it. I'm sure I ended up in a few hundred other peoples' photos too as I wandered around here. I should have made a better attempt at photobombing.

Taggers vs. Ford, Part II

Taggers vs. Ford, Part II

April 15, 2011. Another recent tag by Kismet on the stairs up to the Railpath on the north side of Bloor St. The other one that I posted recently didn't last long, and I don't expect this one to either. The layers of paint are building up fast...

Westwood Theatre: Curtain Call

Westwood Theatre: Curtain Call

April 9, 2011. Westwood Theatre, at Six Points in Etobicoke. This west end Toronto landmark, closed since 1998, has been gutted and used for storage, a movie set, and a home for raccoons. It now just sits waiting for its eventual demolition and land redevelopment.

This is the view into one of the empty theatre spaces from up in the projector room.

Westwood Theatre: Projector Room

Westwood Theatre: Projector Room

April 9, 2011. Inside a projection room of the former Westwood Theatre at Six Points in Etobicoke. This place has been pretty much stripped bare, but it still provides an interesting high-up view into the theatres, which you don't normally get.

There's a cool bit of Canadiana here: A piece of an old Victoriaville Custom Vic 1000 hockey stick is bolted to the wall, which I only noticed after taking a closer look at the photo a day after shooting it. Victoriaville hockey sticks are no longer made. Due to their strength and rigidity, I've seen busted hockey sticks find second lives in bike trailers, fence posts, benches, and more.
